Titanium Tube Manufacturer | GR2, GR5 Seamless & Welded
Buying titanium tube from overseas raises practical questions. Which grade fits the job? Is seamless or welded better? Can the factory supply the right documents? This guide answers those questions from a buyer’s point of view.
Zhangjiagang Chewit International Co., Ltd. (Chewit) is a China-based titanium tube manufacturer and supplier of precision steel tube, aluminum products and forged parts. We supply GR2 titanium tube and GR5 (TC4) titanium tube in seamless and welded forms, cut and finished to your drawing. You can read more about the company on our About us page. Below you will find the specifications, material data, finish options and ordering details you need to prepare an inquiry.

Titanium Tube Specifications: Sizes, Grades and Standards (ASTM B338, B337, B861)

Start with the standard. It defines the grade, tolerances, testing and documents, so it should appear on every purchase order. The table below summarizes our titanium tube and titanium pipe range.

Each standard has a different focus. ASTM B338 covers seamless and welded titanium tube for condensers and heat exchangers. ASTM B337 covers seamless and welded pipe. ASTM B861 covers seamless pipe, and ASTM B862 covers welded pipe. If you are unsure which one applies, send us your drawing or tender document and we will help you match it.

GR2 vs GR5 (TC4) Titanium Tube: Which Grade Should You Choose?

GR2 is commercially pure titanium. GR5, also called TC4 or Ti-6Al-4V, is an alloy with about twice the strength. Most buyers choose between these two grades.

When to choose GR2

  • Corrosion resistance matters more than strength.
  • The tube will be bent, flared or formed.
  • The application is a heat exchanger, condenser or chemical line.
  • You want a lower material cost than alloy grades.

When to choose GR5 (TC4)

  • The part carries high load or pressure at low weight.
  • The project is aerospace, motorsport or high-end sports equipment.
  • Your drawing already specifies Ti-6Al-4V or TC4.
GR7 (with palladium) and GR12 are options for harsher chemical conditions. Tell us your medium, temperature and pressure, and we can suggest a suitable grade. For lightweight parts that do not need titanium’s corrosion resistance, an Aluminum Alloy Tube may be a lower-cost alternative.

Seamless vs Welded Titanium Tube: Differences and Best Uses

Both forms are widely used. The right choice depends on pressure, size, budget and the standard your project follows.

Seamless titanium tube

A seamless titanium tube has no weld line. It suits high-pressure service, critical aerospace parts and applications where the specification requires seamless construction. Lead times and costs are usually higher, especially for small batches.

Welded titanium tube

A welded titanium tube is made from strip that is formed and welded, then usually cold worked and annealed. It offers good dimensional consistency and a cost advantage for longer lengths and larger volumes. It is common in heat exchangers, condensers and general process piping.
If your standard allows both, welded tube often saves cost. If the drawing says seamless, quote seamless. When in doubt, ask us to quote both so you can compare.

Titanium Tube Chemical Composition and Mechanical Properties

The values below are typical limits for the two most requested grades. Always check the current standard and the mill certificate for your order.
Property GR2 (TA2) GR5 (TC4)
Type Commercially pure Alpha-beta alloy
Aluminum (Al) – 5.5–6.75%
Vanadium (V) – 3.5–4.5%
Iron (Fe), max 0.30% 0.40%
Oxygen (O), max 0.25% 0.20%
Tensile strength, min 345 MPa 895 MPa
Yield strength, min 275 MPa 828 MPa
Elongation, min 20% 10%
Density (approx.) 4.51 g/cm³ 4.43 g/cm³
Titanium weighs about 40% less than steel, and GR5 reaches a strength level close to many alloy steels. This high strength-to-weight ratio is the main reason designers choose a titanium alloy tube for weight-sensitive parts.

Available Sizes: OD 6–80mm, Wall Thickness 0.35–10mm, Custom Lengths

We supply round titanium tube from 6mm to 80mm outer diameter, with wall thickness from 0.35mm to 10mm. Length ranges from 50mm to 6000mm. We can also cut to length or work to your drawing.
When you send an inquiry, include these details so we can quote quickly:
  • Grade and standard (for example, GR2, ASTM B338)
  • Outer diameter, wall thickness and length
  • Seamless or welded
  • Tolerance requirements
  • Surface finish
  • Quantity and destination port
Thin-wall tube from 0.35mm is available for heat exchangers and precision parts. Tell us if you need tight straightness or ovality control, since these affect process and cost.

Surface Finish Options: Bright Annealed, Pickled and Polished Titanium Tube

Surface condition affects appearance, cleanliness and downstream processing. We offer three finishes:
  • Bright annealed: Heat treated in a controlled atmosphere to give a clean, bright surface. Common for heat exchanger tube and precision applications.
  • Pickled: Chemically cleaned to remove surface scale. Suitable for industrial and chemical use.
  • Polished: Smooth, decorative surface. Used for sports equipment, architectural parts and visible components.
Tell us the required roughness (Ra) if your application has a limit. This is especially important for medical and food-contact parts.

Titanium Tube for Heat Exchangers and Condensers

Heat exchangers and condensers are among the largest uses of titanium tube. Titanium resists corrosion from seawater, brackish water and many process fluids. It also resists erosion from fast-flowing water, which often damages copper alloys.
GR2 is the usual choice. Its thin wall helps offset titanium’s lower thermal conductivity compared with copper, so thermal performance stays practical. Typical uses include:
  • Power plant and marine condensers
  • Seawater cooling systems and desalination equipment
  • Chemical process heat exchangers
  • Offshore platform cooling water lines
For these jobs, ASTM B338 is the most common standard. Send us your tube count, size and length, and we will prepare a quotation.

Titanium Tube Applications: Chemical, Marine, Aerospace and Medical

Chemical processing

Titanium tube carries corrosive liquids and gases and is used in reactors, distillation equipment and heat exchangers. Performance depends on concentration and temperature, so confirm your operating conditions before choosing the grade.

Marine and offshore

Titanium handles long-term seawater immersion. It is used for ship condensers, ballast water pipes, subsea oil and gas lines and offshore platform cooling systems.

Aerospace

GR5 titanium alloy tube is used for engine cooling and fuel lines and for lightweight structural members. Aerospace buyers usually require strict documents and traceability, so tell us your specification early.

Medical equipment

Titanium is biocompatible and non-magnetic, so it suits MRI-compatible components, surgical instrument parts and thin-walled tubes. Medical projects often call for specific implant-grade standards. Please state your standard in the inquiry so we can confirm what we can supply.
Other uses include nuclear plant condensers, geothermal well tubing, motorsport and bicycle frames.

Why Titanium Tube Resists Corrosion in Seawater and Acids

Titanium forms a thin, stable oxide film on its surface within seconds of contact with oxygen. If the film is scratched, it re-forms on its own. This film protects the metal in chloride environments such as seawater, where stainless steel can suffer pitting.
Titanium also performs well in nitric acid, many organic acids and oxidizing chemicals. It has limits, however. Hot, concentrated reducing acids such as hydrochloric and sulfuric acid can attack plain GR2. For those conditions, alloyed grades such as GR7 or GR12 may be a better fit. If your budget allows only a standard steel solution, our Stainless Steel Tube range may suit less aggressive duties.
A short review of your fluid, concentration, temperature and pressure helps avoid a costly material mistake. Our technical team can support this before you order.

Quality Control and Testing: Ultrasonic, Eddy Current and Hydrostatic

Titanium tube is commonly checked in several ways. Which tests apply depends on the standard and your purchase order.
  • Dimensional inspection: outer diameter, wall thickness, length and straightness.
  • Chemical analysis: confirms the grade and impurity limits.
  • Mechanical testing: tensile, yield and elongation.
  • Flattening and flaring tests: check ductility, mainly for heat exchanger tube.
  • Eddy current or ultrasonic testing: detect surface and internal defects.
  • Hydrostatic test: checks leak tightness under pressure.
Please list the tests you need in your inquiry. We will confirm which test items and reports we can provide for your order before quotation.

Certifications and Documents: EN 10204 3.1 Mill Test Certificate

A mill test certificate (MTC) is the main quality document for titanium tube. An EN 10204 3.1 certificate typically records the heat number, chemical composition, mechanical test results and the standard used. Many oil, gas, chemical and power projects require it.
Ask for the documents you need at the inquiry stage, not after production. Typical requests include:
  • Mill test certificate (EN 10204 3.1 or other type)
  • Test reports for the checks listed on your purchase order
  • Packing list and commercial invoice
  • Certificate of origin, if required for customs
Company certificates are shown on our homepage. For document requirements on a specific order, please discuss them with our sales team.

Custom Titanium Tube Manufacturing: Square, Oval and Spiral Shapes

Besides round tube, we can supply square, oval and spiral titanium tube, and we also work to custom sizes and lengths. Custom shapes are used in heat transfer equipment, sports equipment, frames and special machinery.
For OEM and project buyers, the fastest way to start is to send a drawing or a sample. Useful information includes:
  • A drawing with tolerances, or a sample
  • Working conditions (medium, temperature, pressure)
  • Annual or project quantity
  • Any required standard, test or marking
Share your needs with us and we will review feasibility and reply with a plan.

How to Order: MOQ, Lead Time, Packaging and Export Shipping

The ordering process is simple:
  • Send your inquiry with grade, size, standard and quantity.
  • Receive our quotation and, if needed, technical feedback.
  • Confirm details such as tolerance, finish, tests and documents.
  • Production and inspection according to the agreed standard.
  • Packing and shipment to your port or address.
MOQ and lead time depend on grade, size and current stock, so we confirm them in each quotation. Samples can be discussed for new buyers.
Titanium tube should be protected from scratches, contamination and moisture. Typical export packing uses end caps, protective wrapping and strong wooden cases or pallets. Confirm your packing needs with us. For trade terms such as FOB or CIF, please discuss them with our sales team.

Titanium Tube Price: What Affects the Cost per kg?

Titanium tube is priced by weight or by length, and the price changes with the market. Instead of quoting a fixed number here, it is more useful to know what drives the cost:
  • Grade: GR5 and alloyed grades cost more than GR2.
  • Seamless or welded: seamless usually costs more.
  • Size and wall thickness: thin wall and tight tolerance add processing cost.
  • Finish: polishing and special cleaning add cost.
  • Testing and documents: extra tests increase the price.
  • Quantity: larger orders usually lower the unit price.
  • Raw material market: titanium sponge and scrap prices move over time.
To get an accurate quotation, send us your specification. We reply with a clear price based on your exact requirements.

Titanium Tube FAQ: Answers to Common Buyer Questions
